Charles H. Saint-Vil, founder of Light Up Our Youth Foundation, was orphaned on the streets of Haiti at the age of seven. This experience galvanized him to start this ministry, with a mission to end the cycle of youth hunger and illiteracy in Haiti. In 2006, he left his native home to come to the United States to find better opportunities. Charles earned a Bachelor degree in civil engineering at San Diego State University in 2013. After graduation, he was eager to use his skills and abilities to help his homeland in the process of rebuilding after the earthquake. Mr. Saint-Vil made the decision to go back home to Haiti to work as a water resources engineer. During his time working as an engineer in Haiti, he was touched by peoples’ stories, especially the children from his own street and neighborhood who were starving to death. Their stories were not much different from his own, reminding him of where he came from. He quickly realized the need was great and would require more than just himself to help, so he founded Light Up Our Youth (LUOY) Foundation.
